Kazi Yetu’s Zanzibar Chai Infused Marble Cake

Kazi Yetu’s Zanzibar Chai Infused Marble Cake

Happy World Baking Day!

Have you ever tried baking a marble cake before? We didn’t realise how simple it is to achieve that beautiful swirl effect until we tried this delicious and simple Marble Cake recipe by Dr Oetker

To make this cake, we infused our Zanzibar Chai tea blend, a black tea with delicious warming spices like cloves, ginger, cardamom and cinnamon!

Here’s the recipe

Ingredients:

100 ml milk
4 Zanzibar Chai pyramid tea bags
1 tablespoon honey
125 g butter
100 g sugar
1 vanilla
1 pinch salt
2 eggs
225 g wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder

Also for the dark batter:
2 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoon milk

How to prepare:

  1. Bring milk to a boil. Add Zanzibar Chai pyramid tea bags and honey and let it steep for about 5 min. Let the milk cool down.
  2. Grease the cake pan. Preheat oven (top/bottom heat about 180 °C).
  3. Stir butter in a mixing bowl until smooth. Gradually add sugar, vanilla and salt, stirring until combined.
  4. Stir in the two eggs.
  5. Combine flour and baking powder and stir in alternately with chai milk. Pour about half of the batter into the pan.
  6. For the dark batter, sift cocoa, stir into remaining light batter with sugar and milk. Spread dark batter on top of light batter and drag a fork in a spiral through the batter layers to create a marble pattern.
  7. Place the pan in the oven. Baking time: about 30 min.
  8. Decoration with your favourite chocolate icing if you wish, or enjoy without!

Enjoy with a hot cup of tea, of course!
