"In 2023, Tanzania exported USD $30 million of tea, with smallholders collectively producing about 40 percent of the country’s green leaf. Tea has traditionally been a male-dominated crop in Tanzania, with women’s role in this downplayed, and a lack of vertical integration within the country has limited Tanzanian farmers’ ability to make this profitable.
But this is changing – and in the Tanga region, women are showing the value they can bring to Tanzania’s tea sector."
